Cardiff Half Marathon Runners Urged to Prioritize Heart Health

With less than two weeks until thousands of runners prepare for the Cardiff Half Marathon, a Welsh heart charity is urging participants to prioritize cardiac health as an essential component of their training regimen. The charity is marking this year’s event with its annual Go Yellow for Ben & Kory campaign, running from 1 to 16 October. The initiative honors two young men who died from sudden cardiac arrests, including Ben, who passed away after completing the 2018 Cardiff Half Marathon, and Kory, whose tragic loss has deeply affected the local community. These screenings aim to detect potential health issues early, providing valuable insights for participants.

They emphasize that neither Ben nor Kory appeared to have health issues before their deaths. Their families hope sharing their stories will encourage others to seek heart screenings. The charity will host screenings at Sully Sports & Social Club on Saturday 3 October, the day before the marathon, and at the Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells on 26 September. The charity provides equipment at reduced prices to communities and businesses, and offers grants to help cover costs.
